There are many breathtaking places in Birgitta Trail

The Birgitta trail is situated in the beautiful nature of the municipality of Lempäälä. The trail is approximately 50 km long and it offers different kinds of routes to everybody from professionals to families with children.

In the route you can admire the beautiful Finnish nature and even stop in one of the lean-to´s (Finnish word "laavu"), a small wooden building which allows you to stay in one night - don´t forget the sleeping bag, there is no heating in laavus! The laavus can not be booked in advance.

Birgitta Trail was named after the church of Lempäälä, The St. Birgit Memorial Church, that is over 500 years old. It was also rewarded as the best trekking site of Finland in 2006.

In the brochure below you may find helpful information about the Birgitta trail in pdf format. The map opens by pages and all the texts in the brochure are in Finnish.

Birgitta trail has good, yellow-painted indications along the whole route that are normally marked in trees.

Kirskaanniemi - beautiful sceneries near the city of Tampere (932 kB)
Kirskaanniemi is a beautiful place to visit with family and friends. Here you can spend a day fishing and swimming or just enjoying the peace and quiet of the beautiful nature.

Hakkari - a good place to start trekking near the centre of Lempäälä (592 kB)
You can start your visit to Birgitta trail near Hakkari sports centre, a couple of kilometres from the centre of the municipality. In Hakkari area you can also visit the old museum road and the beautiful arboretum.

Saarikonmäki and Siisjärvi - amazing places in the Northern side of Lempäälä (391 kB)
Saarikonmäki lean-to is easily accessible for families and physically disabled visitors. In the both sides of Saarikonmäki road there are many hazels growing. Siisjärvi is, most of all, a scenery place. It is not recommended to small children because of its hight differences.

Vähä Kausjärvi - family fun in the East of Lempäälä (337 kB)
Vähä Kausjärvi is a perfect destination for families and disabled people. It has an outside toilett, place to make an open fire and another fireplace in the beach right beside the road.

Kaitajärvi and Ammejärvi - two destinations in Sääksjärvi forests (975 kB)
Both Kaitajärvi and Ammejärvi are great destinations for anyone interested about nature. In Kaitajärvi there are good resting and cooking possibilities and a nice beach. In Kaitajärvi you can hear and watch birds and their active life. However, remember not to disturb the birds! Ammejärvi is a good destination even for the smallest children in the family and you can even combine these two destinations in the same day, the distance between these places is only 3,6 km.

Vähä-Riutta - true wilderness, peace and quiet (846 kB)
In Vähä-Riutta is possible to spend the night in a group of 15-20 people. There are fireplaces outside and inside. Vähä-Riutta is situated in a wonderful place beside a beautiful pond. This part of the Birgitta trail connects with Karin´s path in Kangasala. True peace and quiet can be experienced in the wilderness between Vähä-Riutta and Iso-Riutta.
